The 'domain name' business has been deregulated. InterNIC (Network Solutions) is no longer the only registrar of com-net-org names. Domain names can now be purchased from many different companies.
The price war is on. Intense competition has greatly impacted registration prices. The 'standard' $35 per year fee is no longer standard, some companies register names for less than half of that. Price is an important factor when selecting a registrar, but there are other considerations - value added services, customer support, degree of automation, etc. By carefully researching the alternatives, you can choose the registrar best suited for your needs.
Compare the choices. This site is a free resource which lists active domain registrars and their prices. Listings are hypertexted to each registrar's web site so that you can review each company in detail. Be sure to check back often, as many new registrars are expected to go on-line over the next few months.
